Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE®)
As a post-secondary hospitality educator, you need to be knowledgeable about the industry and how it works and also be able to use the latest high-impact instructional methods and teaching techniques. The internationally-recognized Certified Hospitality Educator certification recognizes the teaching ability of hospitality educators at the college level.
This program enables you to:

Prerequisites
There are two ways you can qualify for the Certified Hospitality Educator Program:
Plan A
- Be currently employed full time as a post-secondary hospitality educator, with at least two years of experience in one or more such positions
- Have at least a four-year degree or international diploma from an approved institution
- Have at least two years of full-time professional experience in the hospitality industry, with a minimum of one year in a managerial or supervisory position
Plan B
- Be currently employed full time or part time as a post-secondary hospitality educator
- Have at least five years of full-time professional experience in the hospitality industry, with a minimum of two years in a managerial or supervisory position

Resource Materials
CHE candidates must participate in a CHE workshop, a multiple-day event hosted by a college and facilitated by a master CHE trainer for a group of 10-25 participants. You will receive complete details about your specific workshop when you are accepted as a CHE candidate. Before the workshop, you will receive a packet of self-study pre-workshop materials and the participant manual for the CHE workshop.
The pre-workshop materials include about six hours of readings and assignments that must be completed before the workshop.
Exam
To earn the CHE, you must pass the written exam, complete self-study materials and assignments, and participate in workshop discussions.
Topics included on the exam are:
- Understanding Adult Learning Theory
- Establishing a Positive Classroom Culture and Communication
- Effective Endings
- Content Presentation Methods
- Classroom Evaluation
The CHE exam has 100 multiple-choice questions that can be taken at the end of the CHE workshop or within two weeks after the workshop with an approved proctor. You need to score 75 percent or higher to pass.
