Prerequisites
You can earn the CHSP designation if fifty percent or more of your duties involve sales of guestrooms or meeting space to groups or individuals. All areas of hospitality sales are included: rooms, convention/conference, banquet/catering, group, etc.
Candidate Time in Position: Current employment in a sales position for at least 6 months.
Time in position requirement can be eliminated if you meet the following conditions:
- One current AHLEI supervisor, management, department head, or executive certification
- A degree from an accredited academic institution

Exam
When you are ready to take the exam online, contact AHLEI’s Certification Department to have the exam sent to your proctor.
A proctor may be a CHA, CHSP, a hospitality educator, an AHLA member association executive, your immediate supervisor or a member of the clergy. Your designated proctor cannot be a relative.
The CHSP exam has 100 multiple-choice questions that must be answered within two hours. The test questions test your mastery of competencies derived from six key areas of knowledge. The key areas of testing are:
- The Marketing Plan
- Business and Leisure Travelers
- Travel Agents and Meeting Planners
- The Sales Office and Reservations
- Revenue Management
- Personal and Telephone Sales
